Dr. Michael Plakogiannis is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with more than 20 years of experience, widely recognized for a thorough, patient-centered approach and exceptional bedside manner.
Dr. Plakogiannis began his medical career in the prestigious seven-year BS/MD program at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, part of The City University of New York. After earning his Bachelor of Science in biomedical sciences in 1995, he completed his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in 1997.
He finished his clinical training with an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, New York.
Dr. Plakogiannis provides the full spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic care — from routine well-woman visits and prenatal management through labor, delivery, and minimally invasive surgery. His patients regularly describe him as patient, thorough, and easy to talk to, and his reputation for a careful explanation and a calm manner has earned him devoted followings across generations of the same families.
Since 2001, Dr. Plakogiannis has taught and supervised residents, medical students, and physician assistant students at Lenox Hill Hospital. In 2008, he was recognized with the Teacher of the Year award — an honor chosen by the trainees he mentors.
He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, continuing to shape the next generation of OB/GYN physicians.
